Since the 1970s, the month of February has been focused on celebrating the Black community. Black History Month is celebrated across the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany and Netherlands by highlighting the rich culture, history, talents and contributions that African Americans have made to society.As a woman of color, I am proud to offer you eighteen ideas for celebrating Black history this year.Here are 18 ways you can celebrate Black History Month:Make a purchase at a Black-owned business or organizationTeach African American students about vocational careers Highlight the past or present accomplishments of Black team members Attend or host a Black culture event in your communityShare this article on social mediaRead a biography of an influential Black figureCall out racism and prejudice in your communityStudy the African DiasporaLearn more about a Black authorVolunteer to help support a social cause for the Black community Donate to an Historically Black College or University Introduce an emerging leader in the Black community to your audience Learn about an unsung hero of Black historyDiscuss what you’ve learned about Black history with your loved onesEncourage healthy conversations about Black history in the workplace Visit a Black History or Civil Rights Museum in your local areaSupport a Black creative (artist, poet, local musician, etc.)Trace the history of various industries and discuss how it impacts today’s societyIn summary there are many ways to celebrate Black History Month for people of all race & ethnic backgrounds.
